If you prefer a private snorkeling tour at Koh Tao, book an independently operated longtail boat. This will give you the freedom to make your own schedule and visit other destinations not offered on the standard trips. Costs vary, so check around with a few boat operators and agree beforehand on the price and what’s included. Average longtail boat capacity is a maximum of ten people.
For the ultimate in comfort and convenience, organise your own private luxury speed boat. Get to places the quickest way possible and spend more time snorkeling. There are a few companies offering this service, most of them also offer charters on request between neighbouring islands and the mainland.
If you don’t want to join a group tour, you can always go off and discover this beautiful island of Koh Tao on your own. There are many walks for you to take to explore at your own pace and it’s easy to see some of the interior of Koh Tao and a beach or bay in one trip. Kayaks are available for hire in some places and these are great to combine with snorkeling. You will also see lots more without the engine noise of a boat to disturb fish life.
