Whether you need to stock up on sun lotion, buy a coconut necklace or get the latest model of underwater camera, Koh Tao shopping stores are able to supply almost all of your demands. For this convenience, please be aware that prices here are higher than the mainland due to high transportation costs, storage and the cost of living.
Koh Tao has plenty of clothes shops at all three of the main beach areas: Mae Haad, Sairee and Chalok Baan Kao. Although most shops offer a similar choice of products and beachwear suited to island use, a few shops offer brands made by local designers and some international brands. You won’t have to go far to find things like shorts, tops and T-shirts, swimwear, flip-flops, beach towels, sarongs, sunglasses, hats, bags and beach games.
There are four big stores in Mae Haad Bay where you can find all equipment and accessories for diving and snorkelling. Each of them is an authorized distributor for various brand names such as Mares, Scuba Pro, Aqua Lung, Omer, Cressi, Suunto, Beuchat, Tusa, Gull etc. Most of the large dive centres on Koh Tao also have their own retail stores.
Apart from local products, some popular imported goods (food items like pastas, energy bars, chips, spices and ingredients) are also available at a few stores on Koh Tao. Alcohol and tobacco are provided in most supermarkets here. Sundries and necessary skin care products for the island such as sunscreen, tanning oil, after-sun lotion, coconut oil and insect repellent are also easily found. If you are staying longer and are in need of housewares or furniture and can’t find what you are looking for, some of Koh Tao shopping stores operate a catalogue ordering system.
Here you will find local foods and ingredients to cook your own dish, or buy some of the tropical fruit on offer. Some shops on Koh Tao also provide fresh organic vegetables and imported meats. Fruit is sold in some of the small shops on the roadside as well, and they can often cut them into pieces or blend them up to make a fresh fruit shake.
