Koh Tao Hospital and Medical Services

There is Koh Tao Government Hospital and numerous choices of private clinics on Koh Tao.

For serious emergencies, surgery or need of specialists, patients are transferred from Koh Tao Hospital or clinics to Koh Samui or the mainland to Chumphon or Surat Thani to the hospitals there. In the event of a diving-related emergency Ocean Medical Clinic, partnered with Bangkok Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center, can be reached 24 hrs/7 days/week. The clinic can organize medical transfers, provide initial care, and facilitate evacuation to Koh Samui Hospital if needed.

Koh Tao Hospital

Koh Tao Government Hospital offers medical treatment by professional doctors and nurses, including treatment of prevalent and chronic diseases and epidemics, a dental service, a prenatal clinic, labour and delivery services, family planning and scuba diving check-ups. There is an emergency medical service (EMS) 24 hours a day. Overnight admissions and evacuation off Koh Tao can be arranged. There is also a laboratory, X-ray room, antenatal and delivery rooms, a traditional Thai medicine room and nurse practice.

Private Clinics on Koh Tao

Clinics can be found in any of the three main areas of Koh Tao for treatment of general ailments, wound and suture dressing, minor surgery, vaccinations and diving check–ups. Some offer laboratory and blood work like malaria and dengue checks. Overnight admissions and evacuation off Koh Tao can also be arranged if necessary. Ocean Medical Clinic specializes in treating various diving-related diseases, including Decompression Sickness and ear problems. They provide prompt care for the situation using Multiplace Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber System.

Rescue Koh Tao

This is a branch of a nonprofit foundation in Surat Thani providing a 24-hour comprehensive land and sea rescue service for accidents and natural disasters. The office is located in Chalok Baan Kao, behind the main building of the Subdistrict Municipality office.

Koh Tao Tourist Police

The Koh Tao Tourist Police is a government organisation responsible for providing tourists with personal safety, security and other services while staying on Koh Tao. The office in Ko Tao Center is open 24 hours. Volunteers are welcome.

Subdistrict Municipality

It is a unit of local government and is responsible for the administration and development of local economic, social and cultural aspects of this subdistrict. Elected by the local population, the group manages the public utilities to benefit local people, presiding over and helping to deal with and solve problems. The office is located in Chalok Baan Kao.

Koh Tao Post Office

Koh Tao Post Office is at the top of the road down to Mae Haad. As well as domestic and international parcel and mail services, the office provides financial services such as online money orders, international transfers by Western Union, and public utility bill payments.

There are 24-hour ATM services at every 7-Eleven, and others in the 3 main towns. Places to exchange money are also easily found. Almost all resorts, dive schools, big restaurants and supermarkets accept credit cards. A service charge of 3% or 4% will be added.

Internet access

Almost all resorts/hotels on Koh Tao provide WiFi internet access covering their entire area or designated spots (reception/restaurant). Free WiFi is also available in most restaurants. Most of the town areas are covered with several prepaid 4G services.

Laundry shops are also commonplace in the towns and charge on a weight basis or by the month.
