Located in the south, Chalok Baan Kao Bay is the third largest beach on Koh Tao. It’s a small town where you will find various hotels, dive centres, restaurants, bars, clinics and travel agencies. There is also a pharmacy and a 7-Eleven.
Chalok Baan Kao Bay, Koh Tao, looks out to the neighbour islands Koh Phangan, Koh Samui and the Ang Thong Marine National Park. Hin Taa Toh (Buddha Rock), a well-known landmark on Koh Tao can be seen on the cape on the east side. The beach here slopes down gently into shallow water, so it’s ideal for families with children. For those who love snorkeling, the bay itself doesn’t offer much, but there are some excellent spots within walking distance, such as Freedom Beach, Buddha Rock Cape, Sai Nuan Beach, and June Juea Bay. You can also walk across to Shark Bay (to snorkeling with Green turtles and Blacktip reef sharks) through a few resorts that connect both bays.
Overall, the bay is an excellent place to stay if you want somewhere quiet but near local conveniences.
