Lovely hideaway

Sai Nuan Beach

Sai Nuan Beach, Koh Tao

Sai Nuan Beach actually consists of two beaches, Sai Nuan 1 and 2. This is another lovely hideaway spot with its unspoilt beach of fine white sand and shallow turquoise water.

There is also a grassy area and coconut trees, making it a big natural playground for children. Snorkeling is also good here, and the small bays are quite protected. There are lots to see as soon as you enter the water, particularly around the rocks. Swim out to two groups of boulders very close to Sai Nuan Beach 2. They are easy to spot as the tops of the boulders stand about 2 metres out of the water. This is home to many fish, including orange spine unicornfish, batfish, harlequin sweetlips, giant grouper, schools of yellowtail barracuda and trevally. Green turtles have also been spotted here.

The atmosphere of this area is peaceful and reminiscent of the early tourism days of Koh Tao Thailand in the 80s and 90s. Days can easily be spent relaxing in the hammock of a simple beach hut enjoying the sound of the waves and the handmade coral wind chimes hanging about made by previous guests.

Road access
A very steep concrete road with a short rough dirt track reaches Sai Nuan 2 only. Walk a few minutes further to the bigger Sai Nuan 1. An enjoyable and probably safer way is to park your bike at the Jansom Bay entrance and then walk the pathway along the coast for about 15 minutes. Read more about this walk.
